The Center for Architecture + Design (the Center) is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to creating a public-focused dialogue on architecture, design, and the built environment in the San Francisco Bay Area. Established in 2005, the Center enhances public appreciation for architecture and design through exhibitions, lectures, tours, film series, and other programs including the annual Architecture + the City festival and San Francisco Living: Home Tours.

By the end of 2020, AIASF and the Center for Architecture + Design will relocate from the 6th floor to the street level of the Hallidie Building. The move to our new headquarters is an incredible opportunity to galvanize the public to experience architecture, engage with the evolving role of design in the built environment, reach architects, and commune with all who are interested in creating a more livable City.

While our Relocation and the Opening of our New Headquarters is a major endeavor in 2021, 2020 will be a wonderful time to engage through long-standing and well-attended events. Through our programs, the Center is the platform for the collective voices of the wider design community to come together and be heard.

Board Duties + Opportunities

The Board of Directors are a hands-on, can-do team of leaders who relish engagement. The current opportunity to join the Board is a 2-year term. Duties and opportunities include:

  • Attend 4 board meetings per year, including an annual election meeting

  • Participate in annual and program fundraising ($5,000 minimum)

  • Contribute leadership towards the Center’s relocation and headquarters project with AIASF

  • Serve as an ambassador and network with our stakeholders, including attendance at events such as the Architecture + the City Festival Opening Night Party and Symposia on relevant topics throughout the year

  • Contribute to committee efforts in your interest areas including sponsorships, communications, public programming, development, and strategic planning.
