The Center for Architecture + Design and AIA San Francisco’s Community Alliance Awards program honored those whose overall work, leadership, and dedication shape the character and vibrancy of our communities and the future of our built environment.
DESIGN TECH SYMPOSIUM/11.20.19
AIASF and Center for Architecture + Design presented the 2019 Design Tech Symposium which took a deep-dive into the current and future states of Digital Transformation, discussed best practices and interoperability for integrating BIM tools for building design, civil infrastructure, construction and building operations.
KIDS DRAW ARCHITECTURE/10.5.19
This educational program was originally created in 1988 by the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara ‐ AIA Santa Barbara's “sister organization” to both connect architects as well as landscape architects with children and their parents and to acquire appreciation for landscape, architecture and the built environment. Now after almost 30 years and much success, Kids Draw Architecture is now being offered in multiple locations at a state‐wide level.
16TH ARCH + CITY FEST/9.1-9.30.19
"We the City", the 2018 Architecture + the City festival theme, aimed to explore how cultural diversity and connectivity inspired and informed the built environment. With more than 30 programs strewn throughout the month including our highly-acclaimed San Francisco Living: Home Tours, there's something for everyone. Each year the festival explores and reveals the many layers of historic San Francisco and how ­architecture and design play a key role in the ever-changing urban landscape.
2019 SF LIVING: HOME TOURS/9.21.19
As the first tour program in the Bay Area to promote residential design from the architect’s point of view, this popular event showcases a variety of architectural styles, neighborhoods and residences, including single-family homes, multi-family complexes, affordable housing and contemporary renovations. Tour participants see some of the latest residential projects from the inside out, meet design teams, explore housing trends, and discover innovative design solutions.
OLIVER RANCH TOUR/6.15.19
Led by Steven Oliver, this tour provided an exclusive opportunity to see one-of-a-kind installations that respond to their picturesque 100-acre property, including installations by Bill Fontana, Andy Goldsworthy, Ann Hamilton, Bruce Nauman, Martin Puryear, Richard Serra, and more.
CHANGING THE SKYLINE/3.20.19
Moderated by Arthur Gensler, FAIA, FIIDA, RIBA, this screening of "Leaning Out" also featured a conversation with Leslie E. Robertson, P.E., C.E., S.E., NAE,Dist. M.ASCE, lead structural engineer of the World Trade Center, and his wife SawTeen See, P.E., CE, Dist.M.ASCE, who led the structural design of such iconic buildings as the Shanghai World Financial Center, the Lotte World Tower in Seoul and the Buck Institute.
ARCHITECTS + ADVOCATES/2.8.18
The Academy of Architecture for Justice Bay Area presented "Defender" (80 min), a feature length film about the critical role that public defenders play in fighting for racial and social justice in America. The film took viewers on a personal and intense tour through the underbelly of the criminal injustice system, seen through the eyes of the late San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi, who was one of the nation’s few elected public defenders.
